Act swiftly on complaints, Sabah Water Dept urged


KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Water Department officials must act promptly on complaints, especially regarding burst pipes, says a state assemblyman.

Elopura assemblyman Calvin Chong added that when he inspected a recent burst pipe near Jalan Balai Bomba in Sandakan, he found that the damage was serious.

“The pressure was so strong (that water was gushing out) and this is a huge waste,” he said in a statement on Tuesday (Jan 9).

He said Sabah already faced water shortage problems and so the Water Department must be more alert and proactive when reports of damage or leaks are received.

He also said repairs of old and broken pipes must be carried out as soon as possible.

He said swift response by the Water Department would help consumers get supply restored and also improve its quality of service.

Sabah's ongoing and widespread water woes range from almost daily disruptions in various locations to Universiti Malaysia Sabah's (UMS) ongoing problems, which even drew the attention of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
