MUAR: Four men aged between 27 and 42 have been arrested for distributing drugs in housing areas around the town centre here.
Muar OCPD Asst Comm Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said the men were arrested during a raid by the Johor and Muar Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) at 7.15pm on Saturday (Jan 6).
“The team arrested a local man and a foreign man in a car.
“Inspection then found two transparent packets containing drugs believed to be syabu, weighing around 2kg and worth over RM68,000,” he said in a statement on Tuesday (Jan 9).
The investigation then led to the arrest of two men in Tangkak, he said, adding that the suspects are all believed to be involved in the sale and distribution of drugs in Muar.
Two of the suspects also tested positive for methamphetamine and have prior drug and criminal offences on their records.
“We also confiscated a car and a motorcycle,” he said, adding that the seized vehicle and drugs were worth an estimated RM138,000.
The suspects are currently under remand until Saturday (Jan 13) to help with the investigation under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for trafficking, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment with no fewer than 15 strokes of the cane upon conviction.
Investigations are also being conducted under Section 15(1)(a) of the Act for consuming drugs, which carries up to two years' jail or a fine of not more than RM5,000 if convicted.
