KOTA BELUD: Efforts are being coordinated at the national, state and district levels to help victims who have been displaced by floods nationwide, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
The Deputy Prime Minister, who is also the National Disaster Management Committee chairman, said the floods were worsening, particularly in Johor.
“The situation in Johor now is quite bad. Floods have hit six districts so far, affecting 6,800 victims from 1,868 families while 48 temporary relief centres are currently active,” he said after an event here yesterday.
Pahang has 23 active flood shelters housing 896 people from 236 families in three districts.
The floods, he said, had also hit Sarawak, with 38 victims from 12 families currently housed at a flood relief centre.
The government, he added, has taken several measures, including coordinating with the heads of state disaster management committees.
“Disaster operation control centres have also been mobilised as have the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) and the Welfare Department.
“We have conducted coordination meetings at the national, state and district levels with the relevant departments and agencies.
“And this time, we have involved NGOs besides other agencies like the army, police, and the Fire and Rescue Department for relief efforts,” he said.
