Pregnant woman killed, sister hurt in crash on Pasir Gudang Highway


PASIR GUDANG: A pregnant woman was killed while her sister was injured after their car crashed into an electric panel box at KM19.2 on the Pasir Gudang Highway here.

Seri Alam OCPD Supt Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said that the accident occurred last Sunday (Jan 7) at 12.40am when the car, driven by a 30-year-old woman, was heading towards Pasir Gudang.

“Investigations revealed that the vehicle was driven from Tebrau and is believed to have lost control before crashing into the panel box at the road divider.

“The driver of the car suffered a minor injury while the 28-year-old female passenger was pronounced dead while being treated at the Sultan Ismail Hospital,” he said in a statement here on Tuesday (Jan 9).

The victim was also nine months pregnant, he added.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road and Transport Act of 1987.

Earlier, a Facebook post posted by a user, Puven Rajandran, went viral after claiming that the vehicle crashed after avoiding potholes at the Pasir Gudang Highway.
