Tour company director pleads guilty to failing to comply with tribunal order

SEREMBAN: A company director involved in organising tours and haj pilgrimage pleaded guilty at the Magistrate’s Court here to four charges of failing to comply with two Consumer Claims Tribunal awards involving a sum of RM41,920.

Mohd Firdaus Ahmad, 38, the director of Syarikat Persada Oasis Travel & Tours Sdn Bhd, did not contest the charges after they were read to him before magistrate Nor Hafiza Ishak.

For the first two charges, Mohd Firdaus, who represented the company, was charged with failing to comply with an order to pay RM14,040 and RM27,880 to two individuals in their 50s within 14 days from the date of the award on June 27, 2023.

As director of the company, he was slapped with two similar charges.

The offences were committed at the company's premises in Bandar Baru Bangi in Selangor on July 26, 2023.

Both were charged under Section 117(1) of the Consumer Protection Act 1999, which carries a fine of up to RM10,000 and a jail term of up to two years or both upon conviction.

Khairul Azman Rosli from the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry prosecuted, while Mohd Firdaus was unrepresented.

The court then fixed Feb 22 for sentencing.
