Floods: Johor sees significant drop in evacuees from 8,257 to 7,628 on Jan 10


JOHOR BARU: Johor records a drop in the number of evacuees at 7,628 in seven flood-hit districts.

At 1pm, the state had 8,257 evacuees housed at 55 relief centres.

According to the state disaster management committee, as of 5pm, five relief centres have ceased operation while 50 centres still remain open.

“Kota Tinggi still has the highest number of evacuees at 4,471 followed by Johor Baru (1,716), Kluang (1,164), Segamat (107), Kulai (90), Batu Pahat (58) and Pontian (22),” the statement reads on Wednesday (January 10).

The committee also said that the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) also issued a warning of thunderstorms to hit Tangkak, Segamat, Muar, Batu Pahat, Kluang and Pontian.
