KOTA KINABALU: Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor has vowed that his Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition will never be part of any attempt to topple the present Federal Government amid talks of the "Dubai Move".
The Chief Minister said such a move would only lead to chaos and greatly affect the nation’s stability.
"We have a functioning Federal Government that has a good relationship with our state government. Why rock the boat?,” said the GRS chairman, in a statement here on Wednesday (Jan 10).
Hajiji also questioned the motive and intention of those promoting the so-called “Dubai Move”, saying it was merely to fulfil their own political agenda without any care for the people's wellbeing.
"We work for the nation and the people’s prosperity, we do not support any move that will destabilise the country.
"Malaysia practices democracy, those aspiring to become the Prime Minister should just wait for the general elections to see if the people accept them.
“GRS fully supports Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and we are confident of his leadership.
“Let him lead our multi-racial country to prosperity,” said Hajiji.
Community Communications Department deputy director-general Datuk Ismail Yusop had last month claimed that the “Dubai Move” took place when some Opposition and government leaders were on holiday in the United Arab Emirates.
Several prominent Perikatan Nasional leaders have since denied their involvement in the purported plot.
Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, however, claimed that the Opposition had obtained enough statutory declarations to form a new government.
Bukit Aman CID director Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said on Wednesday that a total of 75 reports have been lodged nationwide in connection with the “Dubai Move”.
He said the reports were lodged about “attempts to harm parliamentary democracy” in reference to the purported move which speculated about changing the government.
