KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 43 reports have been lodged nationwide in connection with the “Dubai Move”.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the reports were lodged about “attempts to harm parliamentary democracy” in reference to the “Dubai Move”, which speculated about changing the government.
“We are investigating viral videos that showed three or four individuals talking about changing the government.”
An investigation had begun under Section 124C of the Penal Code, Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act and Section 505B of the Penal Code, he told a press conference in Bukit Aman yesterday.
In view of such claims by various parties, he said the police had to investigate.
“In the past, we have gone through changes in government where a party leader would bring a list of names to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.”
“But this time, it has just been unfounded speculation that has been going on for more than 10 days, causing public distress.
“Thus, we have to investigate the matter before things get out of hand,” he said.
On claims that some MPs were paid to support a change in government, he said police would investigate this.
“If we find such elements, we will refer them to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC),” he said.
He also did not rule out the possibility that individuals such as Chegubard and Papagomo would be called to assist with the investigation.
Asked about possible action against Raja Petra Kamarudin, Razarudin said the blogger was abroad now.
“He has at least 20 police reports against him. However, he is overseas.”
“As I mentioned previously, we can only get cooperation from the foreign authority (where he is) if our laws are similar or in line with theirs, but it is not,” he said.
Last month, Community Communications Department deputy director-general Datuk Ismail Yusop claimed that the “Dubai Move” took place when some Opposition and government leaders were on holiday in the United Arab Emirates.
Several prominent Perikatan Nasional leaders have since denied their involvement in the purported plot.
Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, however, claimed that the Opposition had obtained enough statutory declarations to form a new government.
