BUTTERWORTH: The leaking control valve at the Sungai Dua Water Treatment Plant (WTP) has been successfully replaced, says Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow
"A leaking valve was successfully replaced with a new one at about 10am on Wednesday (Jan 10)," said Chow in a Facebook post.
This comes after Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) chief executive officer K. Pathmanathan said the scheduled water supply interruption has started as scheduled.
He said PBAPP has safely shut down the Sungai Dua WTP temporarily to facilitate the urgent waterworks project.
"The primary work project to replace two leaking 1.2m control valves at Sungai Dua WTP is progressing as planned. We have achieved 60% progress with one of the valves and 30% with the second valve," he said.
However, he added that there was a minor issue at Sungai Prai as the drop in water pressure dislodged the clamp installed on a leaking section of the 1.35m underwater pipe in December 2023.
He said PBAPP has deployed a team of 16 commercial divers to install a secure clamp over a larger section of the leaking pipeline.
"The work is in progress and we will provide updates on the Sungai Prai situation via Facebook and mass media," he said.
He said all physical work to replace the valve will be complete at 6am on Thursday ( Jan 11) including the Sungai Prai emergency response work and added that PBAPP will work through the night and the early hours of the morning as necessary.
