IT has been a 2,400km-journey on foot, which began in July last year.

Salla Sreenivasa Shastri, 64, is on a mission to deliver two gold slippers to the Ayodhya Temple, scheduled to be consecrated this month, Makkal Osai reported.

He started his pilgrimage from Rameswaram town, located in the south of Tamil Nadu in India.

His journey was resumed recently after several deferrals.

Salla has now reached Uttar Pradesh, where the temple is in the final stages of construction.

The devotee had raised donations of 6.5 million rupees (RM363,000) to make the slippers. He had been carrying them on his head throughout the journey.

Harnessing the power of sustainability

He is expected to reach the temple in about 10 days. His plan is to hand over the slippers to Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath.

Salla had earlier donated five silver bricks to be used in the construction of the temple.
