Five nabbed for rioting near Johor school

BATU PAHAT: Police have arrested five men for rioting near a school here.

Batu Pahat OCPD Asst Comm Ismail Dollah said the suspects, who were caught on camera committing the act, were arrested on Wednesday (Jan 10).

"The victim, a 25-year-old man, was waiting to pick up his friend from the school when he was attacked by a group of eight men with sticks.

"The victim managed to escape by running to his car. He then drove straight to the Batu Pahat police station to file a report," he said in a statement.

He added that the attack is believed to be due to a misunderstanding between the victim and one of the men.

He said that the victim also suffered injuries to his cheeks, hand and back and has received treatment from the Batu Pahat Hospital.

"We have arrested five of the suspects, all locals from 15 to 40 years old.

"We are now tracking down the other suspects involved," he said, adding the arrested suspects will be remanded for three days starting from Friday (Jan 12).

The case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting.
