KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Tourism, Culture and Environment Ministry will work closely with newly-appointed Kota Kinabalu Mayor Datuk Seri Dr Sabin Samitah to realise proposals to further beautify the heart of the city here.

Minister Datuk Christina Liew said this will be for the benefit of locals and tourists alike.

However, she said any proposal would be subject to the government's consideration and approval.

When receiving a courtesy call from Sabin on Thursday (Jan 11), Liew said she was looking forward to working with the new Mayor and that they both shared the same ideals of beautifying the city.

During the meet, the two touched on the progress of beautification works currently ongoing and agreed to have a long-term plan for enhancement of the Kota Kinabalu landscaping project.

Liew also agreed with Sabin on the need for more CCTV (closed-circuit television) cameras downtown for public safety.

She also took the opportunity to thank the Mayor for agreeing to decorate Gaya Street (which hosts the Api-Api night food market) with big red lanterns to enhance the Chinese New Year atmosphere ahead of the celebration.

Also present were the Ministry's permanent secretary Josie Lai, Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) deputy director-general (operations) Robert Lipon and DBKK service delivery division head Norsarahana Zaki.
