Man claims trial for raping 15-year-old girl in Sibu


SIBU: A man claimed trial at the Magistrate's Court here on Thursday (Jan 11) to raping a 15-year-old girl.

No plea was taken from the accused, aged 20, after the charge was read to him before Magistrate Flavian Rafizenjat Sempun.

He was charged with raping the victim around 11pm on April 10 last year at a house in Lorong Laichee.

He was charged under Section 376 (2) (d) of the Penal Code.

The court then allowed the accused to be released on a RM8,000 bail and fixed Jan 23 for next mention at the Sessions Court.

Those found guilty of an offence under Section 376(2)(d) of the Penal Code can be imprisoned for a sentence between 10 and 30 years and shall also be liable to whipping upon conviction.
