Man arrested in connection with arson attack on Beruas MP's house


IPOH: Police have arrested a man, believed to be involved in the arson attack at Beruas MP Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham's house in Ayer Tawar.

Perak police chief Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said the man, in his 30s, was arrested in Shah Alam on Friday (Jan 12) at about 4am.

"We've also seized two mobile phones.

"The man has no past criminal record," he said in a statement.

"A court order has been obtained to remand the man for five days until Jan 16 to facilitate investigation," he added.

On Wednesday (Jan 10) morning, three cars parked on the porch of Ngeh’s house were damaged when a Molotov cocktail was thrown into the house compound.

Comm Mohd Yusri said those with information of the incident are urges to come forward to help with the investigation under Section 435 of the Penal Code.

"Those with information can contact investigating officer Asst Supt Mohd Azalan Ab Karim at 019-392 7837.

"Those convicted can be jailed up to 14 years and fined," he said.
