Floods: Number of victims in Johor continue to drop as of 8pm on Jan 13


JOHOR BARU: The number of flood victims in Johor has continued to drop to 1,150 people from 329 families at 8pm compared to 1,515 people from 450 families at 4pm on Saturday.

The state disaster management committee said that the district with the highest number of evacuees is Mersing with 611 people, followed by Kota Tinggi with 263 people.

“Besides Mersing and Kota Tinggi, the other affected districts are Kluang with 155 people, Segamat with 89 people and Batu Pahat with 32 people.

“All of the victims are currently placed at 13 temporary relief centres (PPS),” it said in a statement.

The PPS with the highest number of flood victims is SK Air Papan with 181 people and SK Tenglu with 168 people in Mersing.

“As of 8pm, there are two rivers that have a dangerous level reading, namely Sungai Muar near Jeti Kampung Tekam in Segamat and Sungai Kahang at Kampung Contoh in Kluang,” it added.
