Nearly RM500,000 given out to flood victims in five states, says deputy minister


JOHOR BARU: Close to half a million ringgit have been given away to flood victims in affected states since the monsoon season started in November last year, says Senator Dr Zulkifli Hasan (pic).

The Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) said he hoped that the aid will help alleviate the burden faced by the evacuees during these challenging times.

“The aid has been given to flood victims in Kelantan, Pahang, Terengganu, Selangor, and Johor as an additional aid aside from the help that has already been provided by the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma).

“The aid is given in the form of food items and personal hygiene kits, which have been distributed by 14 agencies under the ministry,” he said, adding that the programme is still ongoing.

He said this when met by reporters after the food aid handover programme at Kampung Sungai Tiram, Ulu Tiram here on Saturday (Jan 13).

The aid distribution is also assisted by the Yayasan Dakwah Islamiah Malaysia (Yadim) and several Muslim NGOs around Johor Baru, he added.
