Stop bureaucracy and solve UMS' water issue, Bung Mokhtar tells Sabah govt

KOTA KINABALU: Stop bureaucracy and solve the Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) water crisis quickly, says Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin.

The Sabah Umno chief said the state government must be more proactive and empathise with students affected by this issue.

He said there should not be an issue of funding because the Prime Minister had last year allocated RM3mil to solve this problem and recently another RM2mil was given by the Higher Education Ministry.

“So since the money is given, action has to be taken immediately,” Bung said in a statement on Saturday (Jan 13).

He said there should be less bureaucracy and more work done.

All quarters including the federal and state governments, the Sabah Water Department as well as UMS must work together to solve the matter instead of pointing fingers at anyone, he added.

Bung said students in UMS did not want to listen to sweet promises or listen to news about the Telibong II water treatment plant that might or might not be completed on time.

What they want was immediate action and solution because their daily lives on campus were badly affected, he said.

He suggested that the state also come up with funding to help address this matter and to send over water tanks on a regular basis for use on campus.

“It is learnt that many students even have to buy bottled water for their daily use due to this prolonged issue,” Bung said.
