The news of the founder of the 10th Regiment of the Malayan People’s Army was shared by his son-in-law Indra Djaja Abdullah.
“Abdullah CD or real name Cek Dat Anjang Abdullah, former PKM chairman and founder of the 10th Regiment of Malayan People’s Army, has returned to the Almighty at 9.29 this morning in Kampung Perdamaian Sukhirin, Narathiwat Province at the age of 100 years and 3 months,” he said in a Facebook post yesterday.
He joined PKM in 1948, and used to receive instructions from PKM number one leader Ong Boon Hua, or better known as Chin Peng.
In 1989, PKM laid down their weapons and came out from the forest at the Malaysian-Thai border.
They signed a peace treaty known as the Haadyai Peace agreement, ending more than 40 years of armed conflict since the Malayan Emergency was declared in 1948.
The peace agreement marked the end of the communist insurgency in Malaysia.
It was signed and ratified by PKM, along with the Malaysian and Thailand governments, on Dec 2, 1989, with PKM represented by Chin Peng, Rashid Maidin and Abdullah.
