Five projects to cut congestion in Pontian

PONTIAN: Expanding the roads at the Sedenak toll plaza is among five proposed projects to reduce traffic jams in the district, says Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan.

The Deputy Works Minister said the projects, which have been submitted to the Federal Government for approval, are important to reducing commuting times and easing traffic flow during holidays and festive seasons.

The expansions involve the road from the Mara Junior Science College (MRSM) Pontian towards Tampok, Jalan Benut towards the Simpang Renggam Toll and Jalan Ayer Baloi towards the Sedenak Toll.

“We have also requested road expansions at the Pontian Besar bridge and Parit Semerah bridge. We requested these two projects in the past, but they were not prioritised, so I have decided to send the request again this year.

“The expansion at Sedenak Toll is important as it leads to the Sedenak Industrial Park, which has foreign investors and offers job opportunities to our locals in Pontian, Simpang Renggam, Kulai, and Batu Pahat,” said Ahmad, who is also Pontian MP.

He was met by reporters after a visit to the Pontian Public Works Department office here yesterday.

Ahmad added that there are also three Federal Government projects in Pontian that are ongoing, namely upgrading Jalan Pekan Nenas-Tanjung Piai, Jalan Bukit Nyamuk in Kluang, towards Jalan Puteri Menangis, and expanding the Sungai Pontian Kechil bridge.

“The development cost for Jalan Pekan Nenas-Tanjung Piai is RM65.6mil while Jalan Bukit Nyamuk-Jalan Puteri Menangis would cost RM90mil.

“The expansion work of the Sungai Pontian Kechil bridge in Lorong Atap is about RM23.1mil and is expected to be completed in September next year,” he said, adding that the project will expand the road to four lanes.
