M’sian kingpin amassed RM190mil in assets

KANGAR: The assets of the Malaysian drug kingpin who was recently arrested in Laos are estimated to be worth RM190mil.

Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department director Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Kamarudin Md Din said the 41-year-old suspect from Perak was previously arrested under the Dangerous Drugs (Special Preventive Measures) Act 1985.

“The asset value is based on preliminary seizures during his previous detention.

“If I’m not mistaken, the value of the assets, which we confiscated at the initial stage, was around RM190mil.

“We seized some items and returned other items,” he told reporters at the state police contingent headquarters yesterday, Bernama reported.

Also present was state police chief Datuk Muhammad Abdul Halim.

On Jan 8, Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said the suspect, who is married to a Thai woman, will face charges in Thailand.

According to earlier reports, the suspect, who is wanted by the Thai police, was arrested in a joint Thai-Laos operation in Vientiane on Dec 29.
