JEMPOL: A 20-year-old college student who became pregnant after being intimate with her boyfriend lodged a false report in which she claimed that she had been raped by an intruder.
Jempol OCPD Supt Hoo Chang Hook said the student who is pursuing a diploma did so as she was afraid that her family would come to know about her boyfriend and that she was pregnant.
"The student had lodged a report that an unidentified man wearing a mask had entered her house around 6.15pm yesterday (Jan 16). She claimed that the intruder then forced her into a room and raped her," he said.
Supt Hoo said although there were inconsistencies in the student's story, a forensic team was sent to her house to search for clues.
"The team failed to get any specimen or other evidence where the rape allegedly took place. The girl was then taken to Jempol Hospital for a check-up and doctors said she did not suffer any injury from the alleged rape but was five months pregnant," he said.
Supt Hoo said police then decided to check her phone conversations between her boyfriend and her after she had lodged a police report.
He said based on the conversations, police began having doubts about her story and she was sent in for more questioning.
"It was only then she admitted that she had lodged a false report.
"She admitted to having had sex with her boyfriend and had become pregnant," he said.
The case he said was being investigated under Section 182 of the Penal Code.
Offenders can be jailed for up to six months or fined up to RM2,000 or both upon conviction.
