Youth charged with murder of senior citizen


SEREMBAN: A 17-year-old was charged at the Magistrate's Court here with the murder of a 74-year-old man in Siliau.

No plea was recorded after the charge was read to him before magistrate Syed Farid Syed Ali.

The accused was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code with murdering Muhammad Zahid Nagappan at a house in Kg Pasir between 11.30pm on Jan 3 and 10am the following day.

Deputy public prosecutor M.Pusppa then asked the court for a remention as the post-mortem report was not ready and added that no bail would be offered to the accused as it is not a bailable offence.

Magistrate Syed Farid then fixed March 18 for remention.

The accused was unrepresented.

On Jan 4, police detained the accused and his 25-year-old brother following the discovery of the victim's body.

The victim, who was unemployed, was believed to have been stabbed in the back.

He also had injuries to both his ankles.
