IPOH: Over 13kg of drugs believed to be heroin have been seized by the police, with one man arrested, during an operation near the Rural Transformation Centre in Gopeng.
Perak police chief Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said the drugs weighing 13,186g, believed to be worth about RM111,000, were found in the 40-year-old man's car on Wednesday (Jan 17) at 9.25pm.
"A team of policemen from the state contingent and Bukit Aman's expressway mobile patrol vehicle unit was involved in the operation. The drugs were found while searching the car," he said in a statement on Thursday (Jan 18).
"We believe the drugs were to be distributed to the local market in the state and can be used by about 15,000 people," he said, adding that RM206 in cash was also seized during the operation.
Comm Mohd Yusri said the man, who is unemployed and from Ipoh, tested positive for methamphetamine.
"A background check also found that the man has some previous crime cases.
"The man is believed to have started distributing drugs early this year," he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act.
"He will be remanded for seven days until Jan 24 to facilitate investigations.
"The success of the case was due to the continued cooperation with the community," he said.
"We urge the people to continue channelling information related to drug-related activities to us so that we can take actions and ensure the state is free from this crime," he added.
