KUCHING: AirAsia will increase the frequency of its Jakarta-Kuching route from three times a week to daily flights beginning Feb 8.
The added frequency will offer more convenient travel options at affordable fares, allowing people to travel between Jakarta and Kuching easily for leisure or business, the carrier said in a statement on Friday (Jan 19).
"The increase in flight frequency comes at the right time and marks a significant milestone in the tourism industry recovery for both countries," it said.
Operated by AirAsia Indonesia, the Jakarta-Kuching route was launched on June 15 last year.
"The route has been successful in bringing the two regions closer together and opening doors to opportunities for tourism, trade and mutual growth," AirAsia said.
It added that the connection from Kuching to Jakarta was a precursor to wider connectivity from Sarawak to other parts of Indonesia, especially with the establishment of the country's new administrative capital Nusantara in east Kalimantan.
Seats are available for booking now from 689,000 rupiah (RM208) for flights departing Jakarta and RM149 from Kuching.
