PETALING JAYA: Kedah has attracted RM10bil in investment since 2021 thanks to its investor-friendly policies, says the Mentri Besar's Office.
This amount has greatly exceeded the state's annual targets, it said in a statement on Friday (Jan 19).
"This is thanks to the fast-track procedure system where local authorities work closely with other agencies (to) create a conducive investment atmosphere which saves cost," it added.
The statement said Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor was currently in China, leading a delegation to Greennovo Environmental Technology Co Ltd in Gejiu City, Yunnan Province.
According to Greennovo's website, it deals in industrial waste recycling to extract heavy metals and other valuable elements and has 20 plants worldwide including in Egypt, Vietnam and Thailand.
"In Malaysia, Greennovo's presence is through a joint venture with Xin Sheng Environmental (M) Sdn Bhd which is involved in zinc-producing activities and recovery in Kulim Industrial Estate in Padang Meha," it added.
In his speech welcoming the Kedah delegation, Greennovo chairman Leon Ma said the company planned to establish a green concept research and development centre in Malaysia and a suitable location was being identified.
He said the company also planned to expand its operations in Malaysia by producing zinc ingots from zinc powder.
The Mentri Besar's Office said Muhammad Sanusi expressed his commitment to simplifying and expediting all procedures, with full compliance, to facilitate the ventures by Greennovo and Xin Sheng.
