MACC summons Navy personnel in 'procurement cartel' probe

KUANTAN: The Navy has confirmed that some of its members have been summoned by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for questioning over the 'procurement cartel' involving construction work at one of its base camps, involving more than RM9mil.

Navy commander Admiral Tan Sri Abdul Rahman Ayob said that the MACC had also taken some documents to facilitate its investigation, which is understood to involve a project carried out last year.

"The Navy has extended its full cooperation in the investigation. Let them (MACC) continue with their job and we will wait for the results of the investigation.

"The Navy will not compromise with any of its members involved in wrongdoings and they should be aware of the actions they will face if they do something wrong," he said when met by reporters after attending the naming and commissioning of its patrol craft, KD Sri Sabah and KD Sri Sarawak, at the Tanjung Gelang Navy base jetty here on Friday (Jan 19).

When asked whether the Navy will conduct an internal investigation into the matter, Abdul Rahman said he will wait for the MACC report before deciding on the matter.

On Thursday (Jan 18), three men believed to be the masterminds of a "procurement cartel" were arrested by the Johor MACC at its office at about 6pm.

It is understood that the arrests were made relating to false claims and being masterminds of the procurement cartel involving 13 supplier companies managing construction works at the camp. – Bernama
