Navy men in ‘procurement cartel’ probe summoned

KUANTAN: The Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) has confirmed that several of its members have been summoned for questioning by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over a “procurement cartel” involving RM9mil worth of construction works at one of its base camps.

RMN commander Admiral Tan Sri Abdul Rahman Ayob said MACC had also taken some documents to facilitate its investigation, which is understood to involve a project that was carried out last year.

“RMN has extended its full cooperation in the investigation. Let them (MACC) continue with their job, and we will wait for the results of the investigation.

“RMN will not compromise with members involved in wrongdoings and they should be aware of the consequences if they have done something wrong,” he said.

Abdul Rahman said this to reporters after attending the naming and commissioning of its patrol craft, KD Sri Sabah and KD Sri Sarawak, at the Tanjung Gelang RMN Base jetty here yesterday, Bernama reported.
