RM10mil allocated to upgrade 113 religious schools in Johor


KOTA TINGGI: A total of RM10mil has been allocated to repair and upgrade 113 religious schools in Johor, says Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar.

The Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) said that the upgrading works will also be carried out at sekolah pondok, private religious schools and tahfiz schools.

"We approved this allocation in December last year and hope it will help these schools conduct needed repairs.

"The Johor government has also sent another request for this year's allocation, and we will provide an additional allocation and see what institutions we can help," he said after handing out aid to flood victims at Dewan Serbaguna Kampung Sungai Telor here on Sunday (Jan 21).

Meanwhile, Johor Islamic Religious Affairs Committee chairman Mohd Fared Mohd Khalid said that the state government has requested another RM20mil from the ministry to help an additional 120 religious schools in the state.

"We sent an appeal letter to the minister this morning during his meeting with Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi," he said.

Meanwhile, on the programme, Mohd Na'im said that the Prime Minister's Department had channelled RM1.5mil to aid flood victims in Johor.

"The aid is provided by six agencies under the ministry, which covers food, cleaning necessities and cash aid," he said.
