KUALA LUMPUR: Community Communications Department (J-Kom) officer Abdul Wahab Abd Kader Jilani has sued Bersatu information committee member Badrul Hisham Shaharin for RM5mil for alleged defamation in a lewd video.

Abdul Wahab filed the lawsuit via Messrs Faizal Rahman & Co at the High Court registry on Dec 22, last year.

He named Badrul Hisham, better known as Chegubard, as the sole defendant.

In his statement of claim, the plaintiff said the defendant had published, broadcast and spread defamatory statements in a video against the plaintiff through the Facebook page "Chegubard" and "Chegubard Official" on Nov 16, 2021.

The video in question depicted the plaintiff together with former J-Kom director Datuk Dr Mohammad Agus Yusoff with intention to show an indecent communication between the two.

The video was also republished in a Telegram channel by the name "Chegubard Original".

On Nov 17 last year, the plaintiff said, the defendant had published a new libelous posting on Facebook with clear intention that the words would be public consumption.

Abdul Wahab claimed that the second Facebook post had photos of him in the Parliament building, with Mohammad Agus and a screenshot of a WhatsApp conversation.

He claimed the defendant had spread the defamatory statements despite knowing they were baseless, false and incorrect.

He said as a result, the defamatory statements had humiliated him, tarnished his dignity and image as a Muslim, a public servant and a politician to a point that he was scorned by the community until he was depressed.

Abdul Wahab contended that the video was edited by the defendant or his agents and if the original video exists, it would be private and in the possession of the plaintiff.

He sought for general damages in an amount deemed fit by the court as well as RM5mil in aggravated and exemplary damages.

Abdul Wahab also wants the defamatory statements removed from all online and social media platforms belonging to the defendant videos disposed of.
