GOMBAK: Special teams have been formed to monitor potential cases of crooked cops in Selangor, the state police chief says.
"Two special teams have been set up at the Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department (JPJKK) to monitor these frontliners.
"This is in addition to what we already have, including the Integrity and Standards Compliance Department teams," Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan told a press conference in Batu Caves on Monday (Jan 22).
Following the recent charging of L/Kpl Muhammad Fazrul Razzi Yunus and Kons Muhammad Adib Aikal Sharul Nizam for a rape-and-extort case involving a minor, he revealed that a mass transfer exercise would be conducted.
"We will take the drastic action of moving a total of 167 members of the MPV (mobile patrol vehicle) unit that have been stationed at one place for more than five years.
"They will be replaced by other personnel from other units.
"With this unit mobilisation, I believe we will be able to strengthen the MPV unit, while also identifying those with disciplinary issues," he said, adding that he views the matter seriously.
Comm Hussein said disciplinary actions and investigation papers have been opened on 311 cops last year.
"From that number, 33 have been charged in court and 14 people have been suspended from their duties.
"A total of 21 more have been fired from the police force," he added.
He also said as of Jan 22, this year, 11 police staff including an officer have been charged in court.
