PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has been given the go-ahead to charge Tun Daim Zainuddin.
However, this cannot be executed just yet as the 84-year-old former finance minister is in hospital.
MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said the agency had wanted to bring Daim’s case to court since last week, after getting the consent from the Attorney General’s Chambers.

Azam said soon after getting the green light, his officers had communicated with Daim’s lawyers to inform them on the matter.
“As we prepared to charge him (Daim), my officers were told that he has been admitted,” he told The Star on Wednesday (Jan 24).
He, however, did not spell out what the charges against Daim are.

Azam also claimed that the MACC had not been given a clear explanation as to why Daim was admitted to the hospital and what his health issues were.

“Doctors have not been really forthcoming when my officers queried,” the MACC chief commissioner claimed.
Azam said Daim would still be brought to court to face charges.
“For now, we will observe the situation. But eventually, we need to bring him to court,” he said.
