More support for the PM means a stronger govt, says Zahid

KAJANG: The more support the Prime Minister receives, the stronger the Madani Government becomes, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The Deputy Prime Minister said with the latest support of Bersatu's Tanjung Karang MP Datuk Dr Zulkaperi Hanapi, the Madani Government now has the support of 153 MPs.

"The more MPs (showing support to the Prime Minister), the better.

"More support for the Prime Minister translates to a stronger government," he told reporters after his working visit to the Civil Defence Force's headquarters on Wednesday (Jan 24).

Showing support for the Prime Minister is the individual right of the respective MPs, Zahid said.

"The government now has solid support," he said.

It was reported that Tanjong Karang MP Datuk Dr Zulkaperi Hanapi, who was from Bersatu, officially recorded his support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

However, added the retired military serviceman, that he still remained a loyal Bersatu member.

"With the realisation that there was a need for political stability and smooth economic recovery, as well as regretting the difficulty faced by the people due to the current high cost of living, I pledge, as the Tanjong Karang MP to support the leadership of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim," he said in a statement on Wednesday.

Dr Zulkaperi added he was supporting Anwar on his own accord and was not compelled to do so.
