Pre-school curriculum to be streamlined, says Fahmi

PUTRAJAYA: Curriculum for pre-schools will be coordinated by the Education Ministry so that it can be streamlined, says Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil.

He said that for curriculum involving religious education, the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) would look into the matter.

"This is what the Cabinet has decided today. The Education Ministry will provide the details on this," said the government’s spokesman at a press conference on Wednesday (Jan 24).

On Jan 22, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had said that the pre-school education system should be reviewed by ensuring that it was given additional facilities to improve the learning process.

He observed that Malaysia was rather behind in providing facilities to pre-schools, including in digitalisation.

The Prime Minister had also asked that the Education Minister look into the entire pre-school system.

On another matter, Fahmi said a new director-general for the Community Communications Department (J-Kom) had not been appointed as yet, because the department was in the process of being overhauled, says Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil.

He said it might be a while before the appointment could be made as the overhaul was expected to take some time.

"We have had some early discussions. Once we are ready, we will make the appointment," he said.

In November last year, Dr Mohammad Agus Yusoff had resigned as the director-general of J-kom.

A video, which appears to feature him having an indecent conversation with a man named "Wahab" had gone viral.

Agus, who cited an internal conspiracy to sabotage his career and reputation, claimed the view was actually doctored.
