Retired civil servant pleads guilty to cheating businessman

IPOH: A retired Public Works Department (JKR) staff member has pleaded guilty to a charge of cheating a businessman of about RM30,000 in 2012.

Ahmad Zainuddin Bontak, who was then a general assistant with JKR's mechanical branch, was ordered by Sessions Court Judge Ahmad Kamar Jamaludin to pay a RM30,000 fine in default three months jail after being found guilty on Wednesday (Jan 24).

Ahmad Zainuddin had earlier nodded and pleaded guilty after being read the charge under Section 415 of the Penal Code for cheating, and punishable under Section 417 of the same Code.

He was said to have deceived one Badrul Hisham Hadan by encouraging him to hand over money amounting to RM30,000 to help with the application for a sandstone material work permit in the state, when there was no application done.

The incident is said to have occurred at a fast food eatery on Jalan Tambun here on Oct 19, 2012 at about 11am.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act deputy public prosecutor Maziyah Mansor prosecuted while Ahmad Zainuddin unrepresented.

When met outside the courtroom after the proceedings, Maziyah said Ahmad Zainuddin would pay the fine.
