Thirteen-year-old student among four nabbed for armed robberies in Alor Gajah

ALOR GAJAH: A 13-year-old student is among four individuals detained by a police task force for staging a series of armed robberies here.

Alor Gajah OCPD Supt Arshad Abu said the four were placed high on the police wanted list after robbing foreign workers using machetes and bamboo sticks.

"The four, alongside two more suspects who are still at large, had allegedly robbed the foreign workers living in quarters at smallholdings here.

"All the cases were reported in this district," he said on Wednesday (Jan 24).

Supt Arshad said Melaka police had to set up a task force to track the suspects following reports made by the foreign workers and a manager of a smallholding over three armed robberies that were reported between Dec 3 and Dec 20, 2023.

He said one victim also sustained injuries after being hit by the suspects in one of the robberies staged at Simpang Ampat here on Dec 3.

Supt Arshad said three of the suspects, aged between 13 to 27 years old, were detained here while another one was apprehended at his home in Sik, Kedah, on Jan 16.

He said the teen suspect was a Form One student at a secondary school here.

Supt Arshad said upon investigation, three of the suspects including the teenager will be charged at the Sessions Court here on Wednesday under Section 394 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt while committing a robbery.

"One of the suspects has been released while two others still at large are being tracked," he added.
