Cops and reps team up against crime

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah police are looking at fostering closer ties with assemblymen as one of the ways to fight crime and social ills together.

State Police Commissioner Comm Datuk Jauteh Dikun said the authorities could learn of issues affecting the people during programmes jointly held by the police and state representatives.

“Through the information gathered, we will discuss them and resolve those issues.”

He said problems related to drug abuse and road accidents were among the topics discussed during the dialogue session with the Sabah assemblymen.

“We will take the initiative to hold dialogue sessions with leaders including at the district level at least twice a year,” Comm Jauteh said during a gathering between Sabah police and assemblymen at the state police headquarters in Kepayan here on Tuesday.

He said fighting crime is not solely the police’s task and that everyone has a role to play.

The police, he said, are of the view that collaboration with assemblymen could bring about a positive outcome for the wellbeing of the people and the state.
