Trust issues one reason for not updating Padu

PETALING JAYA: An “unhelpful help desk” and a lack of trust are among the reasons why Malaysians are still dragging their feet when it comes to updating their information in the government’s Central Database Hub (Padu) despite repeated reminders to do so.

Individuals The Star spoke to were also confused over the need to update their information after chief statistician Datuk Seri Uzir Mahidin said that Malaysians and permanent residents had been automatically added to the system.

When Padu was launched on Jan 2, Muhammad Siddiq, 33, registered himself even though there were complaints about the system’s security.

When it was announced that Malaysians had to update their personal particulars in Padu, Muhammad was confused as he had already done so.

“Perhaps, when logging in, we should receive a notification that our particulars have been updated,” said Siddiq.

“This would help users from having to constantly log in to check their information.”

Another user, Jane Chan, 29, said she could not contact Padu’s help desk to update information about her current job.

“I saw that my previous job was listed in my profile but I am now serving in another company and wanted to update it. But I was unable to since there was no category for my current job.

“When I tried to search online to reach out to the help desk, the website would lag or I would be sent to a blank page,” she said.

John, a content producer, said he will not register on Padu until the last minute or when the government makes it mandatory.

John, 31, said there is lack of transparency and explanation from the government on how Padu works.

“Now, the authorities are saying they have our details all along and want us to update our profile but we still need to register to log in. Isn’t that redundant?” he said.
