Bailey bridge at Kuantan-Segamat Highway opened today

KUANTAN: The Kuantan-Segamat highway at Section 102, which has been fully closed since Jan 7 due to a sinkhole, was opened on Saturday (Jan 27) after work to install the Bailey bridge was completed.

The Public Works Department said the two-lane bridge was opened to vehicles with a maximum load of 20 tonnes and a 30km/h speed limit.

"To ensure smooth traffic flow, the Public Works Department has provided a comprehensive traffic management plan as a guideline to road users, and it is hoped that all motorists will be careful and comply with all the road signs," it said in a statement on Saturday.

On Jan 18, Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said a permanent bridge would be built to replace the Bailey Bridge, with a funding application of RM17 million submitted to the Economy Ministry and Finance Ministry. – Bernama
