Bersatu Youth chief denies more MPs will declare support for Anwar

PETALING JAYA: Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal has denied that more Bersatu MPs will declare support for Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Bersatu Youth chief claimed this was simply not true and there was no ultimatum issued by the MPs that they would support Anwar if Perikatan Nasional could not prove it could change the government soon.

"Such a situation never rose as I have met them (the MPs) from Bersatu and Perikatan Nasional," online news portals quoted Wan Ahmad Fayhsal as saying on Sunday (Jan 28).

Wan Ahmad Fayhsal, who is also Machang MP, said he would propose that the party's supreme council take legal action against the six Bersatu MPs who had already declared their support for Anwar, forcing them to vacate their seats.

Bersatu's Bukit Gantang MP Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz said at a media conference on Friday (Jan 26) that the support, which is expected to be declared before the opening of the next Parliament session on Feb 26, would particularly involve Bersatu MPs from Kedah, Penang, Perak, Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Selangor and Melaka.

He said financial problems were a major factor because every MP had promised to protect the interests of their constituents, but after more than a year, no assistance had been given by the party.

So far, Bersatu MPs who have declared support for Anwar are Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz, Datuk Dr Zulkafperi Hanapi (Tanjong Karang), Zahari Kechik (Jeli), Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang), Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar) and Datuk Dr Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan).
