Vital for development agenda to get youths' input, says Perak MB

IPOH: The nation's youths need to be convinced that the political narrative being pioneered by the unity government is indeed the politics of the future, says Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad.

The Perak Mentri Besar said it was a challenge to overcome the scepticism of young people towards politics.

Concrete action was needed to show them that the unity government is really able to initiate reforms in matters that the young consider important, he added.

"It is something that must be nurtured.

"The administrative machinery needs to ensure that every policy implemented must take into account the ideals and expectations of young people," he said in his winding-up speech at the inaugural Perak Unity Government Convention at the Casuarina@Meru Convention Centre here on Sunday (Jan 28).

"The views and thoughts of the youth must be worked into the development agenda," he said, noting that they were rich in innovative ideas and creativity.

"The government also needs to anticipate the demands of young people so that they are given as many opportunities as possible to be involved in this agenda," he added.

Saarani also called on grassroots leaders to play their roles in triggering a wave of greater unity.

"Actions at their level must embody the spirit of unity among the component parties.

"Give confidence to the people out there that we have the will to be a government that is sincere in fighting for the people," he said.
