IPOH: The police sergeant who allegedly raped a 16-year-old girl in Perak Tengah last year has been arrested.
Perak police chief Datuk Seri Comm Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said the policeman was arrested on Sunday (Jan 28).
"He is being remanded at the Perak Tengah police station until Wednesday (Jan 31).
"The case is being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code," he said in a press conference after attending the Healthy Eating Active Living (Heal) programme jointly organised by the state police and Lions Club International 308 B2 at the state police contingent headquarters here on Monday (Jan 29).
"We will investigate the matter transparently to ensure justice for the victim.
"We have called several witnesses to help complete the investigations," he added.
It was reported that the girl claimed to have been raped by the police sergeant twice in July and October last year at a parking lot of a supermarket in Perak Tengah near Parit.
A police report was lodged on Jan 20.
Comm Mohd Yusri said those being investigated by the police will also have actions taken against them internally by the police's Integrity and Standards Compliance Department.
