Housewife gets life imprisonment for drug trafficking


KOTA KINABALU: A 35-year-old housewife will spend the rest of her days behind bars after she was found guilty of drug trafficking here.

Tawau High Court judge Justice Datuk Duncan Sikodol handed down the sentence on Siti Azizah Hasan after finding her guilty under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 on Tuesday (Jan 30).

The court, however, spared the accused caning as she is a woman.

According to the facts of the case, Siti Azizah was accused of trafficking methamphetamine weighing 128.9g at about 1pm at Dataran Palma, Bandar Lahad Datu on June 17, 2022.

She was charged under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act, punishable under Section 39(B)(2) of the same Act.

The accused, who was a IMM13 document holder, was also instructed by the court to be referred to the Immigration Department on the completion of her sentence which began from the date of her arrest on June 17, 2022.

Deputy public prosecutor Hurman Hussain appeared for the prosecution while the accused was represented by counsel Kamarudin Mohmad Chinki.
