Malaysian crew involved in vessel sinking incident in Vietnam is safe, says Wisma Putra


PETALING JAYA: A Malaysian sailor who was involved with the trading vessel which sank near the Con Dao island in Vietnam is safe and currently receiving treatment, says Wisma Putra.

“The Foreign Affairs Ministry, through the Consulate General of Malaysia in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, would like to confirm that a Malaysian crew member was involved in an incident involving a Malaysian trade vessel, Samudra Indah II, which sank near the Con Dao island (90 nautical miles from the Vung Tau), Ba Ria-Vung Tau, in Vietnam on Jan 30, 2024,” it said in a statement on Wednesday (Jan 31).

“The Malaysian citizen has been reported to be safe, and the authorities are administering further treatment in Con Dao island,” he added.

The Malaysian Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh is in touch with local authorities for developments on the incident, and the necessary consular assistance is being extended.

Further developments on the incident will be updated from time to time.
