Dad claims trial to hitting, threatening teachers who caught son smoking in school

KOTA KINABALU: A real estate agent has pleaded not guilty to threatening a teacher and causing hurt to another in a school here on Friday (Feb 2).

The 49-year-old man was accused of uttering the words "kau jaga, kau juga akan saya jumpa juga" (you be careful, I will find you too) to a teacher behind the school basketball court at around 9.30am on Monday (Jan 29).

He was also charged with voluntarily causing hurt to another teacher at the same place around the same time.

He pleaded not guilty to both charges before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie.

State prosecution director Nahra Dollah applied for RM5,000 bail for both offences.

Counsel Lim Chun Yuan urged for lower bail, stating that it was only to secure attendance in court and not to penalise the accused.

He said the accused had a son and an elderly mother to care for, and was the breadwinner of his family.

The Magistrate then set bail at RM3,000 with two local sureties, and fixed March 7 for case management.

The family of the accused posted bail.

It was reported earlier that the man's 17-year-old son called him to the school after he was allegedly caught smoking in the toilet.

It is unclear what transpired during the incident that led to the accused allegedly turning aggressive towards the teachers.

Video clips of the incident were widely circulated on social media.
