PETALING JAYA: Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s daughter penned a post on her personal Instagram with a caption “False hope... is worse than despair” after her father had his prison sentence reduced instead of given a full pardon.

A picture of Nooryana Najwa Najib seen leaning on her father’s shoulder was posted on her Instagram post @yananajib on Friday (Feb 2).

This post came after her previous post, where she expressed disappointment that her father was not given a full pardon.

“While we appreciate the sentence reduction from 12 years to six years as decided by the Pardons Board following advice and views, we are disappointed that Najib did not receive full pardon and was released immediately," she said.

On Friday, the Pardons Board said the convicted former prime minister’s jail term had been reduced from 12 years to six.

This means that Najib will be released on Aug 23, 2028.

The fine imposed on him has also been reduced to RM50mil from RM210mil.

“However, if the fine is not paid, a year will be added to the jail term, and the release date will then be on Aug 23, 2029,” the Pardons Board secretariat said.

Najib is serving a 12-year sentence after having been found guilty of abuse of power, criminal breach of trust and money laundering in relation to RM42mil that had been siphoned from SRC International, a former 1MBD subsidiary.

He was also fined RM210mil.

Najib is also currently on trial to answer charges of abuse of power that allegedly brought him financial benefit to the tune of RM2.28bil, believed to have been 1MDB funds.
