Traffic snarl on NSE due to seven-vehicle pile-up, two killed

IPOH: Two lorry drivers were killed in a seven-vehicle pile-up at KM288 northbound of the North South Expressway, near Gopeng on Saturday (Feb 3).

Perak Fire and Rescue Department operations assistant director Sabarozi Nor Ahmad said the bodies of the victims have been handed over to the police following the incident at about 7.45am.

Sabarozi said a driver of a car suffered a broken arm and has been sent to a hospital by an ambulance.

"The accident involved two lorries, a container, two multi-purpose vehicles and two sedans.

"The two lorries were transporting sugar and metal goods," he said in a statement.

According to the official PLUS Trafik account on X, both the northbound and southbound lanes have been blocked, causing a massive traffic snarl on both sides.

Those driving south have been advised to exit via the Simpang Pulai toll interchange while those heading north are to exit at Gopeng.
