Bidor breakout: 41 escapees recaptured so far, say police

IPOH: Two more escaped detainees from the Bidor Temporary Immigration Depot breakout have been captured.

Tapah OCPD Supt Mohd Naim Asnawi said the two Rohingya men were caught at Kampung Ampang near Kuala Woh on Saturday (Feb 3) at about 8.40pm.

"Our mobile patrol team acted swiftly after getting information from the public.

"The number of escaped detainees that have been captured since Thursday is now 41," he said in a statement.

On Feb 1, 131 undocumented migrants, comprising 115 Rohingya, 15 Myanmar nationals and one Bangladeshi, escaped from the men’s block during a riot at the temporary detention depot.

However, one detainee died in a road accident at KM335 of the North-South Expressway.

A similar breakout occurred in April 2022 after a riot saw 528 detainees escape an immigration detention centre in Relau, Bandar Baharu in Kedah.

Around 10 of them died after being hit by cars while they tried to cross a road in the chaos.
