Cops bust drug trafficking ring in JB, seize RM1.8mil worth of drugs

JOHOR BARU: Police have confiscated drugs worth RM1.8mil and arrested five men, including a 17-year-old teenager, during two separate raids here.

Johor police chief Comm M. Kumar said that the raid was conducted on Jan 29 from 4am until 4.30pm by the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) under 'Ops Tapis'.

"Four of the suspects also tested positive for ketamine, and background checks revealed that three of the suspects had priors involving drugs and crime.

"The group's modus operandi was using the terrace house as a store and place for them to repackage the drugs before they were distributed to the local market," he said in a press conference at the Johor police Headquarters here on Sunday (Feb 4).

Comm Kumar added that the group has been active since July last year, and the police have also confiscated two cars worth RM25,000.

"All of these drugs can be used by 85,658 addicts," he added.

All of the suspects were currently under remand from Jan 30 until Feb 5 to help with the investigations.

The case was being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act for drug trafficking.
