Don't forget about our farmers, says Dr Wee

PETALING JAYA: While economic development of the country is important, we must not neglect our farmers, Datuk Dr Seri Wee Ka Siong says.

"While the country emphasises on economic development, we shouldn't neglect our agricultural production.

"At Parliament, we also often discuss and debate about the country's agriculture industry and food safety policies.

"Today, I met up with the Yong Peng Federation of Farmers Associations for an interaction session to understand the issues they face," the MCA president and Ayer Hitam MP said in a Facebook post on Sunday (Feb 4).

"According to farmers, the shortage of corn has caused the rise in poultry prices.

"Therefore, the government must monitor the poultry market closely and introduce a more comprehensive plan to ensure a sufficient supply of food for all Malaysians," he said, adding that their feedback would be forwarded to the relevant departments, and that around 80 farmers were also given fertiliser following the meeting.

In a separate post, Dr Wee said that his service centre had continued the annual tradition of passing gifts to the underprivileged in conjunction with the Chinese New Year, with the MP meeting 37 dialysis patients.

"We also spent time sharing a meal with the patients and had an early celebration of the Lunar New Year," he said.

Dr Wee also took part in a "Chinese New Year convoy" around the streets of Yong Peng.

"Our convoy that travelled through several places in Yong Peng has certainly brought smiles to the residents in the surrounding areas.

"We brought them lion and dragon dance performances and shared with them mandarin oranges and ang pow packets.

"As we count down to the Year of the Dragon, let us anticipate the New Year with joy and happiness!" he said in a Facebook post.
