Two govt dept heads nabbed in Melaka for false claims totalling over RM30,000

MELAKA: The directors of two Federal Government departments here have been arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on suspicion of making false claims.

They were arrested when they turned up at the Melaka MACC office at Alai here at 2.30pm on Monday (Feb 5).

A third suspect, the director of a private company, was also arrested, a Melaka MACC spokesman said.

In the first case, the male director of a government department is believed to have produced a false invoice for RM24,900 over the supply of items to an official programme last year that were never delivered.

The company director was detained on suspicion of abetting him.

In another case, the female director of another department is said to have submitted a false claim for RM6,000 for the supply of items to her department, also last year.

Melaka MACC director Mohd Shahril Che Saad said more civil servants are expected to be summoned to assist in the investigation of both directors.

Mohd Shahril said all three will be produced at the court complex on Tuesday (Feb 6) for a remand order and to help with the probe of their respective cases under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009 for providing false claims.
